About Ecolocation

Ecolocation is a Midlands-based ecology consultancy established in 2004 and incorporated as a trading style of George Burton Architecture & Ecology Ltd (GBa&e) in 2008.

Following a career in architectural practice commencing in the 1980’s, George widened the business to include ecological services and encompass his knowledge of wildlife, in particular birds and bats, undertaking surveys of these species.

Benefiting from extensive experience in the construction industry, George was able to apply practical and affordable solutions to the findings of his ecological surveys and it is this over-arching ethos that is carried through to this day.

Whilst George has now returned to the architectural side of the business, he still engages with ecology and offers invaluable ecological advice and experience to both his staff and our clients whenever necessary, as well as ensuring that devising ecological solutions from a sound construction background continues.

Ecolocation has subsequently expanded considerably and is now driven by Technical Director Anna Scott-Swift supported by full-time and part-time ecologists, and seasonal staff. There is a range of expertise within our staff team; all permanent staff are members of CIEEM and between us we hold survey licences for great crested newts, bats and barn owls. We also have extensive experience in holding bat mitigation licences as well as great crested newt and badger mitigation licences. This breadth and depth of experience enables the practice to offer a wide range of ecological services and advice to planning agents, developers, householders, local planning authorities and other Clients alike.

The wider practice, under the GBa&e/Ecolocation umbrella, offers architectural services largely, as well as residential proposals and extends to renewables and sustainability design. Such services are offered in isolation or as combined disciplines to suit Clients’ specific wishes and requirements. Integrity is fundamental to our success in respect of this multidisciplinary service; when we are appointed for one service we fully appreciate that the other services may not be required and respect the fact at all times.
